The people are starting to catch on. There’s this guy who has spent his life working in his dad’s wood shop, making beds, stools, and some real nice end tables. But, around the age of thirty he gets to thinking a career change is necessary. Only problem is he wants a position that is seemingly already filled, the job of priest. Doesn’t stop him. Call him an entrepreneur of sorts, cause he begins preaching and healing in ways no one has ever seen—without the employment of the temple. And to top it all off, he starts collecting a good fan base—lots of people begin showing up to all his public appearances.

One day, he climbs up on a mountain and says there is a new kingdom at hand, and that this kingdom will be contradictory to everything they have known before.

And the people get the feeling this is only the beginning. You see, they were expecting a king arriving in grand fashion, but instead they got a carpenter, turned speaker and healer, who was about to shake things up a bit.

The Kingdom Experiment is a challenge to live this kingdom intentionally. It won’t be easy. And it may get uncomfortable. But if you commit to live what a carpenter started 2000 years ago, you too will experience the kingdom He spoke of.

How it works:

Read and discuss each chapter with your group

Pick one of eight experiments (challenges to live intentionally) to do throughout the week.

Journal your thoughts and experiences

Share your experiences as a group the following week

The point of The Kingdom Experiment is community. And to share stories while we’re at it. To grapple with what “good news” means in the context of this specific time and place. The Kingdom Experiment is an 8-week challenge, but who says it has to end there.

Question: I need help! Who can I call that can give me answers about an event, activity, or program?
Answer: If you are unable to find the info you need on our website, feel free to give Pastor Elliott a call. We’ll be happy to give you all the info you need! Elliott is usually in the office on Tuesday-Friday, you can call him at 902.436.3476. If no one is available, please leave a message and we’ll call you back or if you REALLY, REALLY need to get some answers immediately call his cell phone at 902.315.4169.

Question: What types of things to you teach at your programs?
Answer: One of our core values is to be “culturally relevant.” While this means our style of teaching may change, the content is always Bible based and in line with the teachings of the Church of The Nazarene. We emphasize the importance of making decisions in our life that are healthy for us spiritually, emotionally and physically. Again, the style may change due to culture and personality, but the content will always align with scripture. (Click here for our Articles of Faith)

Question: Where can my student get plugged in?
Answer: We suggest that our Thursday night event is a great place for a “guest” to attend first. It is a larger program so it is easier to blend in and feel comfortable. Another great opportunity is for your student to get involved with a Small Group. These are the back bone of our ministry and are where we try to meet the individual needs of our students. This is a great way for them to experience community and belonging.

Question: As a parent or guardian, how can I express my input or concerns?
Answer: Snaz Uth wants you to be well informed so we send out frequent eNews email’s that include announcements, parenting tips and plain helpful stuff. You can sign up by writing Pastor Elliott at elliott@summersidenazarene.org. We also feel that your feedback is very important so we host bi-monthly informational meetings called “Piece Of Cake Parent Meetings”. Watch the announcements or eNews for the next P.O.C. meeting. If you’d like to speak with Pastor Elliott regarding any issue within the ministry, the best way to do this is to set up an appointment during the week at 436.3476 or email us at elliott@summersidenazarene.org.

Question: What factors go into determining the cost for events and retreats?
Answer: Transportation, lodging, meals, equipment, leaders expenses, and the occasional guest speaker all factor into the cost of any event. Our goal is budgeting retreats and events is to provide you with the highest quality experience for the best value.

Question: How often do I need to fill out a medical release form?
Answer: While you can fill out a Medical Release Form at any time, begining for the school year of 2009-2010, we will circulate a single form to get this taken care of for the year. Medical Release Forms are good for one year from the date they are signed.
